Biography

Pastor Maldonado is the first Venezuelan driver in Formula One since Johnny Cecotto in 1984. His first experience in formula racing was in 2002 in the Formula Ford National Championship. Then, he moved to the Italian Formula Renault where he won the title in 2004. For the first time in his career he drove a Formula One for some test with Minardi. However, it is only in 2011 that Maldonado was signed as first driver with Williams.

Meanwhile, Maldonado secured a full-time drive in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series in 2006. His performances were strong enough to attract the interest of GP2 teams and joined Trident Racing in 2007 and Piquet Sports team in 2008. While his competition was moving to Formula One (Bruno Senna, Lucas Di Grassi and Romain Grosjean), the Venezuelan driver stayed in GP2 and won the title in 2010, beating Sergio Perez.

On December 1rst 2010, the driver signed with Williams after some test in Abu Dhabi. In 2012, he became the first Venezuelan to win a Formula One Grand Prix when he won in Spain. This year he will start his third season with Williams having Valtteri Bottas as his team mate.
